Debuting on Broadway in 2003, Hairspray won eight Tony Awards including the awards for Best Musical and Best Score. Originally based on the John Waters film, Hairspray again became a movie in 2007, incorporating Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's songs from the Broadway musical.
