With music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, this musical classic had its Broadway debut in 1976. Although it debuted in 1976, Chicago the Musical would not win its first Tony Award until 1985 when it won the Regional Theatre Award for a production at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago.

The Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival and the longest-running American musical in Broadway history, and is the third longest-running show in Broadway history, behind Phantom of the Opera and Cats.

This is a 2-Disk album with 28 tracks: Tracks 1-14 contain the background music and guide vocals; tracks 15-28 contain the accompaniment music alone.  This album is a re-recording in the original show key and show tempo featuring live musicians.
